Guaricyclia Atomic Kyoguchi

$50.00

Overview

Guaricyclia Atomic Kyoguchi is a registered intergeneric hybrid between Guaricyclia Kyoguchi and Guarianthe aurantiaca. This cross builds on the original Guaricyclia Kyoguchi (Guarianthe aurantiaca × Encyclia incumbens) by backcrossing it with Guarianthe aurantiaca, intensifying traits from the Guarianthe lineage. The hybrid emphasizes vibrant colors, compact growth, and floriferousness, blending the best of its complex ancestry. Gcy. Atomic Kyoguchi holds clusters of boldly colored flowers well above the foliage on branching spikes.

Gcy. Atomic Kyoguchi appeals to growers who love bright, compact orchids with a splash of personality. Its intensified aurantiaca traits make it a showstopper, offering a bold palette while retaining fragrance and manageability. Our plants are well established in 4-inch pots, growing in a kiwi bark mix. Our blooming season is late Winter to early Spring.

Growing Conditions

Gcy. Atomic Kyoguchi blends the preferences of its parents:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light (2,000-3,500 foot-candles). It can handle bright but avoid scorching midday sun.

  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm, 60°F-85°F (15.5°C-29°C). It’s adaptable but prefers warm days and mild nights.

  • Humidity: 50%-70%. Good airflow is key, especially in humid setups.

  • Watering: Water as the medium (bark, or mounted) nears dryness—every 5-7 days, adjusted for season and climate. Naturalized plants may be watered daily. It’s less finicky than pure Encyclia hybrids but dislikes soggy roots.

  • Fertilizer: Weekly 1/4-1/2 strength orchid fertilizer during growth (spring-summer), reduced in winter.

    Care Tips

  • Mounting: Excels on mounts (cork,, baskets, driftwood)) to showcase its flower clusters, though small pots with coarse bark work too.

  • Naturalize: Easily incorporates into South Florida (Zone 10 & 11) landscapes.

  • Pests: Watch for scale, common in Cattleya-like hybrids, though it’s not overly susceptible.
